Are We Today’s Church?

Reference Isaiah 6: 1- 8

God is in the process of building Churches all over the world. We are HIS Church and there are certain qualities that are expected of us if we are reflect His glory and truly be the BRIDE OF CHRIST. There are four [4] important characteristics of the ‘Body of Christ’ that is the Church that I would like to present before you this hour.

1. Purpose Driven
vs.1 - In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple.

In verse 1, Isaiah saw a vision of the Lord, which gave direction and purpose to his life. If the Church is to move forward, it needs a vision. As a Church we need to know where we are going and what we are going to do in the coming years. If you are going through a period of stagnation ask God for a divine vision and purpose that will drive you through and see the Church grow.
2. Pure
vs.5 - ”Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

In verse 5, Isaiah became conscious of his unclean self. He realized that he was not worthy to stand in the presence of the Almighty God in his sinful state. In utter desperation he cried out for help. He was sure that he would fall apart if he continued to be in such a state in God’s presence. May we likewise realize that we have “all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” [Roman 3:23]. Let us cry out unto God to cleanse us with the precious blood of Jesus that we may be pure and holy so that we may not defile the presence of God, nor be ruined in His presence.

Leviticus 19:2 – “…Be holy because I, the Lord your God am holy.”’

3. Passionate
vs.8 - Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send?
And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me.”

In verse 8, when Isaiah saw the Lord in all His glory, he cried out passionately to be used of God. It is passion that will drive us to do things that we would otherwise not do. It was passion for the things of God that drove the early Christians to martyrdom. It was passion for His people that led Jesus to the Cross! In Psalm 69:9, the psalmist declares, “the zeal for your house consumes me”. Get passionate for God and for His Church!

4. Powerful
vs.8 - Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me.” .

When you have all the other ingredients purpose, purity and passion you will be powerful! You will be filled with a divine boldness that will cause you to reach out to the dying millions around you. You will be charged and spurred on to do the works that you have been called to do. The same power that caused Jesus to rise from the grave will be yours – to build the Church and to be spent for the work of God.

Are you today’s Church?
