Pillars In The Temple Of God
|
Reference Revelation 3: 12-13
Jesus is speaking here to the Church in Philadelphia. In order to understand what Jesus is saying here, we must look at 1 Chronicles 18: 3-8. Although this passage may sound more of a historical narrative, it contains much spiritual truth.
The PILLARS that Jesus is talking about here are the pillars that were to stand in front of Solomon’s temple in Jerusalem. I want you to realize that ISRAEL is a physical, material type of the spiritual possession today. God had promised Israel a land flowing with milk and honey. Today Israel has only a small portion of what was promised by God. There are many who have got only a tiny portion of what God has for them. You may say, well I am saved, I am in Jerusalem…. but you are only getting started. There is more land to conquer, more victories.
David took his army up to the north of ZOBAH. This was a heathen nation, ruled by evil kings. God wanted David to subdue these nations. HADADEZER was the king at this time and his name means, ‘my demon helper’. These nations worshiped demons, they were ruled by them.
When David invaded and defeated Zobah, he brought wagons and wagons of gold, silver and brass and stored it in the warehouse in Jerusalem, until the time for his son Solomon to build the Temple.
David collected all the brass items: door handles, stoppers, inches, rods, candle stands, shields, etc.
Brass represents humanity – brass can be polished, it will shine. When your life is lived for Christ it will shine! Brass can also tarnish if not looked after well. Your life can tarnish as well
- David brought all these wonderful ornaments from Zobah. These items were crafted by great artisans.
- David had many visions and dreams. God had given him a complete design for the temple. Similarly God has a design for your life. Your life is not a happenstance. You will not understand the plan if you stay away from God, prayer and reading of His Holy Word.
- David could not build the Temple as he was a man of war and had shed blood. After his death, Solomon, his son begins to build the Temple at Jerusalem. He goes to Lebanon and brings HURAM – a master artisan, a widow’s son. He brings him to build these 2 pillars in the temple.
- Jesus said- “I will make you pillars in the temple of God”
- Today God is not building a temple of gold or brass. He is building you and me- the living temples of God.
- Solomon tells Huram to make these pillars from the brass that David bought from Zobah. Items that once served heathen gods were going to be used to build the temple of God. You once followed the ways of Satan but now you are a child of God.
God wants us to be made in HIS IMAGE. He does not want us to be conformed to this world, but transformed by the renewing of our minds. He is going to make us pillars in His temple.
- The pillars were named JAKIN [establish] and BOAZ [strength] [2 chronicles 3:17]
- These pillars had capitals on the top. On these capitals were carved: |
- Lilies – represent” purity”
- Pomegranates – imply “fruit-bearing”
- Chains – imply “bonding, tied to Jesus’ We are His bond slaves
|
- These pillars were put in the front of the Temple
Out of the heathenistic Zobah, to the front of the Temple, as pillars of God- what a transformation! God is in the process of building pillars for His Temple – are you ready to be molded, melted and shaped into His |
