Reference Genesis 26
As I highlight few verses from this chapter, I would explain the spiritual implications to our present day situation.
Verse 1: There was severe famine in the land, today there is spiritual famine in our land.
Verse 2: As far as the record goes, this is the first time God appeared to Isaac [since he was on the Mount Moriah, approximately 50 years earlier]. In this crucial time God comforts Isaac with promises of His presence and His blessing. God did not forget His promise with Abraham. He renewed the same with Isaac.
Verse 3, 4: Isaac begins a personal relationship with God. It is after we encounter God in a special way, that we begin a relationship with Him.
Verse 7-11: Isaac committed the same mistake as his father Abraham. Lacked faith and trust in God. Many times we follow the mistakes that we see in our parents or mentors. May we look to Jesus as the ultimate example.
Verse 12: Here we see the first mention of seed sowing in the Bible. Isaac at this point prospered so greatly that his power began to eclipse even that of Abimelech and the Philistines. His prosperity caused the Philistines to envy him.
Verse 15: An adequate supply of water was absolutely necessary for Isaac’s operations. The Philistines began to plug these wells with earth – the desired goal is to cut God’s supply that would prosper him. Water signifies the Holy Spirit – our source of strength and the earth are life’s struggles, failures, bondages, sickness, depression, and discouragement. The devil’s strategy is to plug your wells – God’s supply into your life.
Verse 16: Isaac does not put up any resistance. He could have because these wells belonged to Abraham by the right of construction and he was more powerful than the Philistines. However, Isaac did not want to further anger the Philistines. Do not be instruments in angering people. The devil will try to fill your wells with similar ‘earth’.
Verse 19: The opposition continues the first well ‘ESEK’ means dispute/contention. Dispute among believers is very common. The devil encourages disputes. Have you noticed that when you want to draw near to God all hell breaks loose! You are suddenly faced with contention, disputes. This has been true of the Body of Christ. Beware!
Verse 21: The second well ‘SITNAH means Opposition/hatred. The devil always oppose God’s people. We see it in the life of Nehemiah and every man or woman of God who wants to walk the path that God has set out for them.
Verse 22: The third well ‘REHEBOTH’ means room/faith. No more quarrelling’. The Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land!
As you constantly persevere you will find your position in God.
Verse 33: The fourth well – ‘SHIBAH’ means well of oath, well of covenant. As we all sincerely approach God, He will keep His covenant/promise. Let us live a Holy Spirit filled life. Our God is a covenant keeping God!
Let’s keeping on digging into the well and draw from the rivers of the Living Waters!
